Our new guest during the month April is professor of literature and philosophy, writer, poet and researcher João Camillo Penna. He is invited by the artist Go Eun Im for the lecture and talk on the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector and French-Algerian author Hélène Cixous.

A short bio:

João Camillo Penna teaches Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and he is the author of “Escritos da Sobrevivência” (Writings of Survival), among others, on violence and testimonial writing. He studied with Hélène Cixous at the University of Paris VIII, and wrote under her direction on Clarice Lispector, Jean Genet and Heinrich von Kleist. He holds a Phd in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley co-directed by Avital Ronell and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe on Clarice Lispector. He taught at the University of Washington, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Berkeley. As a translator he translated in Portuguese works by Georges Bataille, Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe and Jean-Luc Nancy.
