Alan is present

by Caterina Pecchioli with Alan Samadi

curated by Elena Abbiatici

Saturday, July 28th, 5:00 – 9:00 pm

“Ele, maybe it’s better that I tell you.”
It was January 2017, on the tram 3 in the long journey back from the Gnam (National Gallery of Modern Art), at the Colosseum, where – over many kilometers – if you do not catch by the tiredness, boredom or confidence are welcome.
‘They are not normal nausea …’ Caterina tells me with an eloquent look.
And the thought becomes suspended and makes way, like life. It earns his space and mixes up with an emotion still vacuous, but perhaps it has already understood that the miracle of miracles has happened. The truth is that miracles happen every second and they are made of moving cells.
In symbiotic systems, the events of one person do not prescind the other.
Pregnancy is perhaps the most obvious of the examples of mutual influence between the parties. And it happens that when it is an artist to be pregnant, the fetus inevitably becomes an artist too. Or maybe it is the internal work of art, which is born acquiring an autonomous status and a further artistic conscience, enough to decide the timing of a performance?
By dismembering and overturning the parts, you are invited to enjoy the guest of honor.
Alan is present is a feast for a new life, it is the celebration of a present life in unstoppable transformation. It is the staging of Alan, with his times and his requests, his big unexpected resonant smiles and his equally sudden whims.

After Rome, at 2 months of age, Alan is present in Amsterdam at 11 months, as the second appointment of a performance hypothetically conceived in stages during the growth phases of Alan. It wants to stimulate a reflection on a subject that is so thorny and personal – the artist’s maternity – clearing up the classic narrow categories of exactness or mistake and opening up to the variability of careers and lives as a woman, mother and artist.
No conclusion will be exact and no judgments will be passed. The task of art remains that one of dissolving stereotypes and sinking into new identities of the world, of body and gender.

You are warmly invited to enrich his performance with micro-works, sound, instruments or what else you would like to design for the occasion. Bring you, your presence and your energy.

Alan is ready to welcome everything and… throw it into the air.

The appointment is for Saturday, July 28th, from 5:00 till 9:00 pm at Goleb.
Burg. de Vlugtlaan 125
1063BJ Amsterdam
